Solving Your Shoe Clutter Dilemma
My biggest problem at work is not a demanding and ornery boss, constantly gossiping colleagues or the unhealthy but very tempting snacks in the kitchen.
No, my biggest issue is this: Where do I put my shoes?
Like many women, I have amassed a vast collection of shoes—from sneakers and sandals to flats, flip flops, heel and boots—stashed under my desk, all in utter disarray. If anyone ever notices this below-deck chaos, my hard-earned reputation as an organized and methodical corporate worker bee will be in serious jeopardy.
I have devised numerous strategies to eliminate the jumbled mess at my feet. First I buried the shoes in my deepest desk drawer, but they didn’t all fit. Then I obtained a small cardboard box from the supply room. Unfortunately, it proved too flimsy. I even considered hauling some of my shoes home to the safety and security of my home closet, but decided this course of action severely limited my options if evening plans required a quick style change.
The only good news regarding my dilemma is that I’m not alone. According to a recent YouGov survey, 79 million of my fellow American workers (women and men) keep extra shoes at their offices. And these shoes are more likely than not strategically hidden under a desk, mostly in topsy-turvy fashion.
The even better news is that an inexpensive and fashionable solution exists. The Pop-Up Organizer was developed by Barbara Keller, a corporate lawyer who was downright embarrassed when an IT staffer needed to check a connection beneath her desk. After Barbara cleared out numerous pairs of shoes to provide access, she decided there had to be a more effective storage method.
Barbara’s ingenious idea was a lightweight and foldable six-cell organizer that fits perfectly under a desk. It is dust-proof, waterproof and comes in three great colors, with more to come. Since the launch of this one-of-a-kind product more than 10,000 units have been sold, providing employees at all levels with an easy way to keep subterranean desk space neat and tidy.
The best part of the Pop-Up Organizer is its versatility. Use it to clear the clutter in your closet, mudroom or basement. It’s perfect for a dorm room or summer camp bunk. And it’s a great way to organize the jumper cables, water bottles and first aid kit lying helter-skelter in your car trunk.
There is nothing on the market like the Pop-Up Organizer, which changed my life for the better both at the office and at home. You may not know it yet, but it will do the same for you.
